living, breathing was composed as part of the precept.concept.percept residency programme organised by .abceda ensemble and performed in Bled, Slovenia. It takes inspiration from the vast natural landscape in the Slovenian mountain ranges, making it a suitable candidate for second installation of Nature Study. The piece is a process of sound evolving throughout the piece – from the faintest breathy sounds of bowed instrument edges, to emerging tone clusters before finally resting in clear pitches in the ensemble’s high ranges, much like the emergence and growth of the forest.
